Every year over 300 volunteers help make the Ottawa Dragon Boat Race Festival the success that it is. Without the hard work and dedication of the volunteer team this event would not happen. Volunteers are needed in a variety of areas on site during the event and leading up to the weekend itself. Important Information

Please review the following information about volunteering for the Ottawa Dragon Boat Race Festival:

• As this is an outdoor event, ALL volunteers should be prepared to work in ANY type of weather.
• Volunteers must be a minimum of 14 years of age.  Any volunteer under the age of 18 MUST submit a signed, manual waiver to complete their registration (available as a download here).
• All volunteers are required to work a minimum of one (1) 4-hour shift over the course of the event.
• Certain positions require special qualifications or commitments; please review the job descriptions carefully prior to signing up for a shift.
• Volunteers are expected to attend the on site orientation meeting which traditionally is held the Thursday evening before the Festival.
• Volunteers will receive: meal vouchers, water, parking passes, Volunteer T-shirt, a Volunteer Handbook, an invitation to the volunteer party, and a great team-building experience.
• No position is guaranteed; we will do our best to meet special area requests, but appreciate your flexibility and understanding during the scheduling process.

Volunteer Registration Information

We are excited to be using a new volunteer management system for 2008. This is a web-based system that will allow both you (the volunteer) and us (the event staff) greater flexibility and control over the entire volunteer management process. Here are just some examples of what you’ll be able to do with this new system:

• View all areas and activities available with detailed job descriptions.
• View detailed schedules for all available activities.
• Confirm your availability for any scheduled activity listed.
• If qualified, be assigned automatically to your preferred area and shift.
• Change any contact or personal information automatically by updating your profile online.
